Description: In this music video you get to see me yo-yo, juggle, and do other skill toys, usually involving food. Lots of vegan foods are shown. So this video is called "Flourishing Vegan," which still isn't a great title, but it's better than the old one.

The title is a play on words of sorts, but it probably requires a bit of explanation because I don't think most people are familiar with the other definitions of "flourish" since they're somewhat localized.

The common definition of flourish is "thrive," so I liked that it suggested vegans are healthy, because we are. (As long as we don't live off junk food.)

To simplify the other definition(s), it means "a trick." Not a magic trick, but a physical trick. In cards a flourish is a move--when you fan them out or do a one-handed cut, for instance. Something real. In club juggling, a flourish is basically a baton- twirling move you do (which incidentally, I don't even do in this video). In other things, a flourish is simply a stupid human trick that isn't fake. For instance, if someone makes it look like they're squirting soymilk out of their eye socket but they aren't actually doing it, it's an illusion. If someone really does it, it's a flourish (but that probably isn't the best example). I wanted to make a vegan yo-yo video. There wasn't a whole lot I could do with food and yo-yos though, so I decided to do other stuff, like juggle fruit. Then somewhere along the line I decided I'd need to show myself getting the food, and since it's such a short video I would have to hurry the hell up, so that's why I'm running back and forth. That's also why the editing is so crazy, with all the jump cuts. I just had way too much footage. It was kind of weird, because usually I know what I'm doing before I film, or I already have the song in mind and stuff, but in this case I didn't. I didn't pick the song until after I had all the footage, so it was kind of weird but I think it turned out fine.

I use various food items during the video. There are a lot more that I wanted to include, but couldn't think of stuff to do with them. Here is a list of the products used, with a screenshot of each one from the video, and a link to the company or other information if available.

Naked Food Juice - [Company Site] Yum. Great stuff. Most are vegan, but "Protein Zone" has whey in it, so be careful! I'm not sure if that's the only one. In case you're wondering, these are not the best things to juggle, especially when they get condensation on them.

Fantastic Foods - [Company Site] Shown in the video: Falafel, Vegetarian Chili, Tofu Scrambler. Also not recommended for juggling, the boxes aren't strong enough.

Tings - [Company Site] [Tings page] Mmmmmm...tings. I'm not a fan of Veggie Booty, but Tings are freakin' awesome.

Tofu - [Tofu Info] [Tofu Recipes on VegWeb] Obviously there's no "official" site for tofu. The tofu I used in this video was just some Trader Joe's generic brand.

Organic Oranges - [Industrial Oranges vs. Organic Oranges] Not much to say about oranges. They're good. That's just a random link I found, might be interesting.

Tofutti - [Company Site] There is no reason to eat (cow milk) ice cream when Tofutti exists. Their stuff is made for lactose intolerant people, so not all of it's vegan, just dairy-free. Their "ice cream" stuff is some of the best out there. Try their "Totally Fudge!" fudgesicles if you get the chance. They make tons of other great stuff too, like their "Better Than Cream Cheese."

Agave Nectar - [Company Site] - Agave Nectar is a honey replacement, basically, made from cacti. It's really sweet, and really good. This was the first time I tried this brand. The other brand I've had was Sweet Cactus Farms.

Bananas - Unfortunately the bananas in this video are not organic--they were bananas my mom had bought. I refuse to buy non-organic bananas for these reasons.

Chocolate Sun Soy - [Company Site] I've been a chocolate Sun Soy addict for a while. It's by far my favorite. However, I probably won't be buying it anymore, unless they start using fair trade cocoa. For more information please read this.
